Trillian Client Installation Tutorial

Welcome to the tutorial on how to install Trillian and connect to the Podnet IRC server to chat. Trillian is also able to connect to the Yahoo Instant Messenger Service, the AOL Instant Messenger Service, and the MSN Messenger Service. You will be able to IM your friends without needing other Instant Messenging programs installed. This was installed in windows Vista Ultimate, howver should work in windows xp and 2000.

Step 1.
You will need the Trillian installer program. You may download this from here (size is 8.6MB), or do a google search for the latest version (if you are tech savy). Download the program and run the installer file that you downloaded.
Step 2.
Click Agree as shown in the picture
Step 3.
Click "more options" (1) to see what is in the picture below. If everything here looks good, click next.
Step 4.
The installer may say that the directory does not exist, if so, click yes.
Step 5.
The next screen will mention the weather application. Uncheck the box then click next as in the image below.
Step 6.
Uncheck both boxes then click next as per the photo below.
Step 7.
The following screen will appear. Sit back and take a brief break.
Step 8.
Click Launch
Step 9.
Click Trillian Basic
Step 10.
Choose a nickname and your avatar. This is self explainatory. Then click next
Step 11.
You may use trillian for YIM, MSN, and AIM if you choose. For this example, we will uncheck all the boxes and then select next. Support for any steps not shown here for YIM, AIM and MSN configuration will NOT be supported in any way by our staff.
Step 12.
Click Ok.
Step 13.
First notice the Trillian menu as we will be using this a lot. Also notice the icon on the task bar as this may be useful when you minimize trillian.
Step 14.
Left click on the trillian menu, goto connections, click on Manage My Connections
Step 15.
A Trillian Preferences window will show up at the Identities and Connections section (number 3). Click on Plugins (1), then click on the IRC check box to check it (2), then click on Identities and connections (3).
Step 16.
Click on "Add a new connection", and then click on IRC.
Step 17.
Fill in the first 2 boxes as shown below. The last 3 boxes you should fill in accordingly (All 3 can be the same but don't have to be. The first is how you are shown in the chatroom's userlist). Your username information will not affect your connection. After filling in the information, click on check box to automatically connect on startup if you wish to have trillian connect when it starts up (2). Click connect (3). The button will change to disconnect, and a warning from your firewall may open up. You will have to unblock or allow the connection depending on the firewall software that is installed. Then you may click on the close button in the lower right corner (not shown).
Step 18.
You will now notice a white button that is below your avatar as circled below.
Step 19.
Click on the white button and click Join a Channel as highlighted in the picutre.
Step 20
This will bring up a new window. Type in "#rsnet" and then click ok.
Step 21
You will be taken into a window that is the IRC Chat window. You may have to click the bottom right hand corner of the window and drag it out to make it bigger.
Step 22
This is the chat window. You can type in the bottom to chat. Please be aware that when the channel is muted (The area that has +tn has an m also), only voiced, half ops, or ops can speak, your messages will appear only to you. Double click a username to pm that user.
Once you are done, you may exit that window and exit trillian by right clicking on the trillian icon on the taskbar and selecting exit.
When coming back into trillian, you may start at step 19.
