Java Client Tutorial
(Clicking the images will bring a larger version up)
This tutorial was written using firefox 2.0.12. Using another browser should be similar, but may be different. You must have the Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or higher installed. Java Runtime Environment download site.
Firefox is at www.getfirefox.com
1. Goto any page on our site and enter your nickname. The password and quit message fields are strictly optional. A password entered will automatically identify you to nickserv and chanserv if you have registered with us.

2. Accept the security signing warning that java gives. You may also want to always accept the publisher so you don't get this in the future.

3. When the applet loads, you should see it check for ident then pass on quickly. If an exception or error comes up, try again, or check your internet connection. If it still persists, please try another client as a firewall may be blocking your connection. Mibbit will bypass firewalls in most cases if you need to follow that path.

4. You should be brought to a screen that looks like this after a minute, although it will be channel #help. Area 1 which says private is where all your pm windows will appear. If someone pms you, you will see their name pop up in red (meaning unread, blue if you have seen it). Infos will be server messages, etc. Number 2 are public channels that you are currently in. #rsnet shows up in this screen capture. Area 3 is where You can disconnect from the server. Exiting the browser can also accomplish this task. Area 4 is where the topic is. Its usually set to inform you of what you may want to know. Area 5 is where new messages / notices show up. Notices will be colored and *'d. Finally area 6 is where the current users in the channel are listed. @ means operator (people who are moderators), + are people with voice (if the channel is muted, these people and moderators can speak and everyone will only see what they type), and the rest of the people are normal users (if the channel is muted, they will not be able to send a message to the channel). If a channel is muted, on the title line (4), you will see "m" beside the current tnr in the picture at the beginning of that line.

Thats it. Thanks for reading.
